Truck Stereo Pt 2

This was the second major build I did in my truck which took about eight months. I used fiberglass and plexiglass throughout the build (go figure)

Sub Panel Install

I recently added a sub panel to my parents shop, which included digging a 250ft trench. This is my first full sub panel install as I've only added breakers to existing panels in the past. Previous wiring was scary to say the least. There's only two people in the world that will see what goes on behind this panel but that doesn't stop me from making it neat and organized.

Here's what I started with

Decided to line the inside with leftover trex from the deck build

Some extra attention to detail never hurts (routered trim panel to match siding), and I've only had two people notice the extra work.

Led lighting

Yamaha Rhino Mods

I added a stereo, heater, and some lighting to my Uncles' Yamaha Rhino.

Built a speaker pod out of wood and foam, I will then use it to make a mold to pull a fiberglass version from.

Home Theater Room

Here's some pics of the build of the home theater, fun times indeed. A lot of work but worth it in the end. It originally was a loft so I built a wall to keep the enjoyment in one room vs the rest of the house. The gear in there isn't all that expensive but the room is small and makes for a pretty good movie experience. I got all the material stuff at the depot on a 0% deal, I love stretching things out for a year. The one downside I never thought of is how much heat the tv gives off, it heats up the room a lot by the time a movie is over. First picture is how it sits completed, the folloowing pictures are of how I got it to there.

Powder Room Re-do

I decided to take on a small winter project since it's nasty outside and this isn't a very big room so the costs can't get too out of hand (I hope)

Downstairs Flooring

We decided to get rid of the carpet and laminate downstairs, I also had to re-inforce the subfloor, which was zero fun. We used pre-finished solid stranded woven bamboo. My first adventure into hardwood flooring, I think my knees were blasted within the first day, but it turned out nice.

Of course I only have a few pictures since I was busy trying to get it down and now there are baby toys everywhere so I couldn't take any good pictures.

Time for a Nursery

Actually it's been about five months since I got the nursery done, and about four months of no sleep, I did however manage to put some bamboo hardwood in dowstairs (see other post)

Not much to see here, took a pretty drab room and added some yellow and green, a very bright yellow in fact. I added a chair rail and threw some furniture in and called it a day. If you can't tell, it's a girl!

Fence Repair 101

Our fence was pretty bad and I figured I'd replace a few boards and clean it up a bit, I ended up finding so many rotten boards that I ended up replacing the whole thing. The first picture is from 2006 so it looked even worse than that when I started.

Garage Cabinets

I finally decided to take care of the garage, all my tools are scattered about and it makes it rather difficult to find anything. I also have a problem with having to work on things so I needed something to do, I figured this project wouldn't involve any sort of destruction, and could be done at my leisure.

I scored a 0% financing deal on the melamine at the depot of home so I got enough to do a few sections. I want to do some more cabinets on another section of the garage, but that will be later.

The house is pre-plumbed for a utility sink which is killer since I probably wouldn't go through the trouble of putting one in otherwise.

Here's the mess I'm trying to get rid of:

Xbox stand

Here's some pics of my Xbox stand, I built this because I needed a place for my Xbox besides the floor. Mainly built out of wood, with fiberglass of course.

This is how the lighted parts started out - 3/4" sheet stock Plexiglass which I ground down to a half circle like shape. I then sanded and polished them till crystal clear.

I then used 1/8" green plexiglass behind them to make them appear green and light up nicely.

I don't know where I decided to come up with this one, but it's pretty cool, I only officially made one, and my nephew has it, been meaning to build one for myself, but never have the time. Built the jig using a scroll saw and then routered the plexi. I then hand sanded the whole thing which was a pain. I built a backer board of m,df and uphostered it with some auto vinyl, and viola!

Master Bath

The doorway to master bath in our current house was originally just a walk through which wasn't any fun in the morning with the wife's hairdryer and such. Obviously there was a gap at the top after installing a normal door. So instead of framing it in and sheetrocking over it I figured I'd fill it with a privacy type window and then of course light it up as well. Blue works well for this I hear.

Platform bed

My Bed, made out of birch maple ply, went for the floating look by hiding feet farther back and inside a bit. For some reason I don't have finished pictures, someday I'll have to take some. I stained it black, and then put in brushed aluminum inserts for the headboard sections.

This was for a home automation company, they had an in wall unit for controlling lights and such and were looking to build a nightstand version so customers wouldn't have to get out of bed to adjust things. It was some good practice for me.

Gmc Fullsize Subwoofer enclosure

Enclosure and amp rack built for a standard cab Gmc pickup. Plexiglass bracing and fiberglass used of course. The speaker wire was ran through plexi tubing, so the subwoofer actually plugs into the enclosure, this keeps the wires neatly in place. I think these are all scanned pictures from before I had a digital camera.

Plexiglass lamp

I had this old torch style lamp laying around so I decided to modify it using some other existing hardware I had. I used clear 1/4" plex tubing to run the wires, and glued 1/4" solid blue plexi rods to both sides. I had to make a new mounting base for the three pieces to attach to the existing lamp. You can see in background my plexiglass dvd shelving of which I have no other pictures of unfortunately.
